“After The Conquest” is one of Calvin's many scores for film.   Originally it was commissioned for "Little Town of Bethlehem", a documentary that won several film festival awards.  Calvin always felt it deserved to be recorded with a real orchestra so it was one of the first songs slated for Paramount: The Symphony Sessions.

Different from his other string compositions on Paramount, “After The Conquest” is played without vibrato.   An orchestra can hide bad intonation by playing  with vibrato.   When playing without vibrato they must be excellent or you will immediately hear their tuning issues.

Recording “After The Conquest” with 35 strings in the recording hall of PRS records in St. Petersburg, Russia was truly an amazing experience.   A converted Lutheran church built more than a century ago, the acoustic ambience of the hall together with the perfection of the orchestra was truly an out-of-this-world experience - one that Calvin hopes to share with all of his audiences soon.

Many who've heard “After The Conquest” agree they could listen to it all day long.   The haunting melody of simply piano and strings is mesmerizing.  On top of this, Calvin's Ukrainian friend and co-producer, Serge Krutsenko, edited an incredible video combining scenes of Kiev and surrounding areas with Calvin's live performance of “After The Conquest” at a concert performed previously with the Lviv Virtuosos.
